Getting ready for the hospital can feel confusing. You want to make sure your baby is comfortable, warm, and happy, but what clothes do you really need? I have packed hospital bags for newborns many times, and I want to make it simple for you.
1. Onesies and Bodysuits
Newborns can need several outfit changes in a day. Pack 3–5 soft cotton onesies. Onesies with snaps at the bottom make diaper changes easy.
2. Sleepers and Pajamas
Hospitals can be chilly. 2–3 sleepers or footed pajamas will keep your baby warm and cozy. Soft fabrics like cotton are best for delicate skin.
3. Socks and Mittens
Little hands and feet get cold quickly. Pack 2–3 pairs of socks and mittens. They also stop your baby from scratching their face.
4. Hats
Babies lose heat through their heads. Include 1–2 soft hats to keep your baby warm.
5. Swaddle Blankets
Even if the hospital provides blankets, having 1–2 lightweight swaddles is comforting for your baby.
6. Going-Home Outfit
Choose something soft, comfortable, and easy to wear for leaving the hospital. This is usually the first outfit your baby wears outside.
7. Extra Layers and Essentials
Depending on the season, pack a light sweater or jacket. Also include a couple of bibs and burp cloths for spills and spit-ups.
Packing the right clothes doesn’t have to be stressful. Keep it simple, soft, and easy to use.
